At performing the ritual ablution, it is necessary to sit down, face the kiblah direction, and put the bowl (containing the water of ablution) to the right side. Upon looking at the water, it is recommended to say the following:
اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِىْ جَعَلَ الْمَاۤءَ طَهُوْرًا
All praise be to Allah Who has made water pure
وَلَمْ يَجْعَلْهُ نَجِسًا۔
but has not made it impure.
Before putting the hand in the bowl, it is recommended to wash it. At putting it there, it is recommended to say the following:
بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ وَبِاللّٰهِ
In the Name of Allah (I begin) and in Allah (I trust).
اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِىْ مِنَ التَّوَّابِيْنَ
O Allah, make me of those who turn much to You
وَاجْعَلْنِىْ مِنَ الْمُتَطَهِّرِيْنَ۔
and make me of those who purify themselves.
You may then rinse out your mouth with three handfuls of water three times and say the following:
اَللّٰهُمَّ لَقِّنِىْ حُجَّتِىْ يَوْمَ اَلْقَاكَ
O Allah, (please) make me receive my proof on the Day when I will meet You
وَاَطْلِقْ لِسَانِىْ بِذِكْرَاكَ۔
and cause my tongue to be eloquent with mention of You.
You may then inhale water (from the nose) three times and say the following:
اَللّٰهُمَّ لَا تُحَرِّمْ عَلَىَّ رِيْحَ الْجَنَّةِ
O Allah, do not ban me from (smelling) the scent of Paradise;
وَاجْعَلْنِىْ مِمَّنْ يَشَمُّ رِيْحَهَا
rather, make me of those who smell its scent,
وَرَوْحَهَا وَطِيْبَهَا۔
nice breathe, and fragrance.
You may then begin with washing the face, saying the following:
اَللّٰهُمَّ بَيِّضْ وَجْهِىْ يَوْمَ تَسْوَدُّ الْوُجُوْهُ
O Allah, (please) whiten my face on the day when faces will turn black
وَلَا تُسَوِّدْ وَجْهِىْ يَوْمَ تَبْيَضُّ الْوُجُوْهُ۔
and do not blacken my face on the day when (other) faces will turn white.
You may then take a handful of water to wash your right hand, saying the following:
اَللّٰهُمَّ اَعْطِنِىْ كِتَابِىْ بِيَمِيْنِىْ
O Allah, (please) give me my Record (of deeds) in my right hand
وَالْخُلْدَ فِى الْجِنَانِ بِيَسَارِىْ
and immortality in the gardens of Paradise in my left hand
وَحَاسِبْنِىْ حِسَابًا يَسِيْرًا۔
and make me take my account by an easy reckoning.
You may then wash your left hand and say the following:
اَللّٰهُمَّ لَا تُعْطِنِىْ كِتَابِىْ بِشِمَالِىْ
O Allah, do not give me my Record of Deeds in my left hand
وَلَا مِنْ وَرَاۤءِ ظَهْرِىْ
nor from my back;
وَلَا تَجْعَلْهَا مَغْلُوْلَةً اِلٰى عُنُقِىْ
and do not cause my hand to be chained to my neck.
وَاَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ مُقَطَّعَاتِ النِّيْرَانِ۔
I also pray Your protection against the severing flames of Hellfire.
You may then rub the forepart of your head with your wetted forefingers of your right hand and say the following:
اَللّٰهُمَّ غَشِّنِىْ رَحْمَتَكَ وَبَرَكَاتِكَ۔
O Allah, (please) overshadow me with Your mercy and blessings.
You may then rub your feet, saying the following:
اَللّٰهُمَّ ثَبِّتْنِىْ عَلَى الصِّرَاطِ
O Allah, (please) make me stand firm on the Discriminating Bridge
يَوْمَ تَزِلُّ الْاَقْدَامُ
on the day when the feet will slip
وَاجْعَلْ سَعْيِىْ فِيْمَا يُرْضِيْكَ عَنِّىْ
and cause all my efforts to be in what brings about Your satisfaction with me.
يَا ذَاالْجَلَالِ وَالْاِكْرَامِ۔
O Lord of Majesty and Honoring!
Upon accomplishment of the ritual ablution, you may say the following:
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنّى اَسْئَلُكَ تَمَامَ الْوُضُوْءِ
O Allah, I beseech You for perfect ablution,
وَتَمَامَ الصَّلَاةِ
perfect prayer,
وَتَمَامَ رِضْوَانِكَ وَالْجَنَّةَ۔
perfect pleasure of You, and Paradise.
You may also say the following:
اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ۔
All praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.
Upon accomplishment too, you may recite Surah al-Qadr (No. 97) three times and impart a sweet smell to yourself.
